AI-written speech delivered by congressman is as flavorless as you’d expect

On Tuesday evening, Massachusetts Representative Jake Auchincloss made history by becoming the first member of Congress to deliver an AI-generated speech on the floor of the House of Representatives. The speech, written by ChatGPT, was in support of a bill that would establish a joint AI research center run by the US and Israel.

Auchincloss provided ChatGPT with a prompt, asking it to write 100 words on the importance of the United States-Israel Artificial Intelligence Center Act. The AI then generated a speech that was “as dull and anodyne as you might expect for a political speech filtered through an AI system based on probabilistic averages.”

The speech was met with mixed reactions, with some praising Auchincloss for his innovative approach, while others noted the lack of spirit or originality in the AI-generated text. Despite the mixed reviews, Auchincloss’s speech has sparked a conversation about the potential for AI-generated text in politics and beyond.
