Read on to learn more about the AI DJ and how it works.
Have you ever wished you had a personal DJ to help you find music you may like? Well, that dream is now a reality with Spotify’s new AI DJ feature. This AI DJ will curate tracks and provide commentary based on what you’ve listened to before. It will also learn to refine its choices based on what you tell it you like or dislike.
The AI DJ’s comments are powered by OpenAI’s large language models, likely a variant of the GPT-3.5 API. This digital DJ offers facts curated by Spotify’s editors about specific songs and artists, as well as the genre being played.
To give the AI DJ a voice, Spotify has partnered with its own Head of Cultural Partnerships, Xavier “X” Jernigan. Jernigan’s synthetic voice is generated by the synthetic voice platform developed by Sonantic, which Spotify acquired last June. Sonantic is best known for generating a deepfake of Val Kilmer’s voice for the Top Gun: Maverick film.
DJ is still in beta and only speaks English, with access limited to Spotify Premium subscribers in the U.S. and Canada, with other markets to follow. Listeners can tap the Play on the DJ card on the Music Feed tab of the Spotify app.
Spotify is using its own experts in genres who know music and culture inside and out to create the voice model for the DJ. With this generative AI tooling, Spotify’s editors are able to scale their innate knowledge in ways never before possible.
This new AI DJ feature is sure to revolutionize the way we listen to music. With an AI DJ in your pocket, you can get personalized music recommendations and enjoy a more efficient and enjoyable listening experience.
